Proverbs

30 vs. 7-9

Two things I ask of you; deny them not to me before I die: Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, “Who is the LORD?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.
Agur the author of this Proverb demonstrates great wisdom as he asks two things of the Lord. These are not for personal gain but for a deepening in his relationship with the Lord.

(1)   Remove falsehood and lying — that is to take these away from me as we would take a harmful object away from a baby or small child. This is internal within our heart and mind, that we may be pure before the Lord. We do not remain empty vessels but our heart of stone is to be replaced with truth with a pure heart, replaced with Christ, that we may have an honest heart before the Lord.

(2)Don’t give me too much that I might put my trust in the things that I have. These are the external things that we possess and if we are not careful those same things end up possessing us. It is easy for us to place our trust in things that we have, believing that they are meeting our needs, and the result of this is stated in verse 9 that we end up saying “Who is the Lord?”

In all things we are to praise the Lord for what He has done for us in salvation and for His provisions to us that meet our daily needs.

Jesus says in Matthew 6:33 ”Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and these things will be added unto you.”
This is a wonderful promise that we should not only believe in word but demonstrate in our daily life.
