PRAYER LETTER OF CHALLENGE LITERATURE FELLOWSHIP |
SEPTEMBER 2008 |
DEVOTIONAL
Psalm 145:11-12 “They shall speak of the glory of your
kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the
children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious
splendour of your kingdom.”
What a theme! The Lord reigns as sovereign Lord of
all, His majesty in that dominion, and the glory of that
majesty! How shall we make this known to the sons of
men? Let us first labour to know it ourselves, and then let
us make it a frequent subject of conversation, so people
shall know it from us, as the Holy Spirit confirms our
words. - Charles Spurgeon.
They shall speak of
(vs 11&12)
The Glory of His
Kingdom.
The Greatness of His
kingdom.
The Power of His
Kingdom.
The Perpetuity of
Gods Kingdom.
The Purity of Gods
Kingdom.

Mat 6:21 “For where your
treasure is, there will your
heart be also.”
As we treasure God above
and before all things He
alone will become our hearts
desire and it will our natural
response to speak of His
character and mighty acts to
all people.
Throughout the psalm we
are shown not only
how to worship God but
also why we should worship God.
We should praise God from day to day. Each day should
be filled with the praise of our Lord for His mercies.
We should praise God from generation to generation.
Each generation is responsible for teaching the next
generation about the Lord.
We should praise God from nation to nation. Go
into the whole world making The Lord known to
all peoples and nations that they may observe His
commandments.
Praise God from need to need. His grace is sufficient
for you; He knows your needs and provides for you as
your Heavenly Father.
Vs 11 ”They shall speak...“ and talk. Joy and sorrow are
hard to conceal; as from the countenance, so from the
tongue. There is so much correspondence between the
heart and tongue that they will move together and so
everyone speaks of their treasure. If our heart is full of
God, our tongue could not refrain from talking about
Him. If Christ is not in our hearts, we are godless; if he
is there without our joy, we are senseless; if we rejoice in
him and speak not of him, we are shamefully unthankful.
Every man talks of, and finds occasion, to speak of what
he likes. As I will think of you always, O Lord, so it
shall be my joy to speak of you always; and if I find no
opportunity, I will make it. – Joseph Hall.
Psalm 57:9 ”I will praise You, O Lord, among the
peoples; I will sing to You among the nations.“

SOUTH AFRICA
A COUNTRY FOCUS
|
|

We have just returned from another amazing trip to South
Africa. This year we had a team of 30 come and share in three
weeks of different ministries. It is so difficult to put into words
what we experienced and what we saw but I think it can be
summed up as follows:
|
We saw God demonstrate His power and authority
|
|
We saw God’s constant protection and guidance over us
every step of the way
|
Prison Ministry
Our team had the opportunity to go to juvenile, women’s,
remand and maximum security sections of Diepkloof the
main prison in Johannesburg. We had the opportunity each
day to distribute the Challenge newspaper and from there to
share God’s message of salvation one on one with prisoners.
Many on the team had the privilege of bringing someone to
new life in Christ for the first time. To date World Hope
Prison Ministries have received 750 commitment slips from
our time in Diepkloof. Each person is followed up with a visit
and a salvation booklet. Once this is completed they begin a
discipleship course and receive a bible. There are now 22,000
prisoners currently being discipled.
VBS Ministry
Our program was Creation to Christ over five days. We had
110 children on the first day followed by 178 the following
day. Our last three days at Zamimpilo we averaged around 200
children per day. It was very cold for two of these days and yet
the children still came, some with very little clothing on. The
children were very responsive to the message of salvation and
we were able to pray with many after the final day.
Paper distribution
Each afternoon we went to different spots around Johannesburg
to hand out Challenge newspapers. We were able to distribute
at Johannesburg railway station 17,000 in just on 2 hours (early
morning period) and the following day 18,000 in 5 hours.

DARRYL BUDGE
STAFF PERSONAL PROFILE
|
|

Having lived in Western Australia
all my life, I daily pinch myself
that I am personally involved, as
Challenge’s Assistant Editor, in
telling people all over the world
about the Lord Jesus Christ.
I couldn’t have asked for a
more wonderful Christian
family to be raised by. For all
of my early life, my parents
were involved in discipling and
encouraging new Christians.
Like many kids in Christian homes, I made a first-time
commitment at age eight, when one night I realised I
wouldn’t be going to heaven unless I knew Jesus personally.
When I was 12, I remember asking God to show His
reality to me.
Less than a year later, my family dramatically changed.
My mother’s health broke down and she was eventually
diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was awe-struck by
God’s faithfulness as my mother slowly recovered by
depending on God’s strength for each day.
Through high school, I had an aptitude for essay writing,
research and critical thinking, and really enjoyed English
Literature, History and Economics. In 2001, my final year
of high school, I was baptised, as I wanted to publicly
declare my faith in Christ.
I didn’t really know what career I wanted to pursue, but
after prayer and talking with my family, I started a degree
in Justice Studies at ECU, Joondalup. That first year, I
volunteered at Scripture Union on reception duties and
really enjoyed my time there.
The following March, Challenge’s managing editor
Carl Carmody visited my church and mentioned the
prayer need for a journalist. Less than a month later, after
receiving confirmation in many ways and a short interview,
I started working at Challenge 2-3 days a week in between
my university studies. It is a 1.5 hour commute each
day, but from the very first day, I have known wonderful
brothers and sisters in Christ and, most of all, very much
appreciated the man God has appointed as my mentor, praying for and encouraging me daily.
In 2005, I had the joy of going on Challenge’s annual
short term mission trip to South Africa, visiting people in
squatter camps, prisons, tenement areas and on the street
to tell them about Jesus through our South African edition
and talking one-to-one. For me, seeing the way in which
God wants to use me to tell others about Him, I am so
humbled and excited by what God has in store for me.
Since completing my degree in Justice Studies in 2006,
I have been working full-time as the main copywriter,
journalist and assistant editor, and have seen God increasing
my skills and love for telling people about Christ. There
have been some really rocky times where I have seen God’s
faithful protection and love, which have made me more
certain today than ever before that the only name under
heaven by which man can be saved is Jesus Christ.
I pray that you too may know Him as your Lord and
Saviour.
