Dorothyhas changed so much since surrendering her life to Jesus

Dorothy needed someone to heal her marriage and her body

Usually shy and quiet, Dorothy Gwisi had a temper that her husband and children feared. She would much prefer to be left alone with a newspaper or book to read and found interaction with people difficult.

Then, she fell ill and began to meet other women and consulted many doctors and specialists to seek help.

“I used to be a harsh person,” Dorothy says. “When I had to talk to someone I usually ended up quarrelling with them and then I would lose my temper. Even when I got married people would wonder if I was sick because I was either too quiet or losing my temper with the children.

“Eventually my sickness was so bad that it was causing problems with my marriage and I knew that I needed help. I began to meet with married women and we discussed my situation.”

The group consisted of Christian women and after discussing Dorothy’s problems they prayed to the Lord Jesus Christ for the marriage. Dorothy also needed prayer for her physical health, as by this time all the doctors had given up trying to diagnose her and her money had all been spent.

“When the money was gone I asked my family for help,” she recalls. “They were unable to help and I was left in a desperate situation.”

As a girl, Dorothy had attended Sunday school, but only to please her parents. Now, in her desperate situation, she remembered that Jesus Christ was called, and is known as the Saviour of all mankind, and wondered whether He would help her.

“I was admitted to hospital,” she recalls, “and one of the chaplains visited the ward I was in. He prayed and shared from the Bible. Then he talked about the holiness of God.

“As he shared on God’s holiness I was confronted with how ‘unclean’ I was as a person and that I was unworthy to stand before a Holy God.

“The chaplain said that we could only have a relationship with God by believing that the death of Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sinful acts and thoughts and made us right with Him. He then asked if anyone wanted to surrender their lives to Jesus and accept Him as their Lord and Saviour. Right there and then I accepted Jesus.”

The chaplain also told Dorothy that Jesus Christ did have the power to heal her and all she had to do was ask Him.

“I have changed so much since surrendering my life to Jesus,” Dorothy says. “I now have good relationships with people, including my family and God has healed me; the sickness just disappeared! All of my family believe in Jesus Christ and the Word of God, the Bible, has become like a best friend to me,” she continues.

“God has set my heart free.”
