Packaging a success

A birthday party surprise lesson in integrity

Inside a large attractive box with beautiful red ribbon a birthday girl found a new 'American Girl' doll which turned out to be the most loved present of all.

What makes a company successful in selling expensive dolls?

Apart from how well-made the doll is, it was accompanied by a miniature bear and a book explaining 'the story behind the doll'.

The paper box was a lesson in excellence. It was much heavier stock than usual packaging so that the contents would never arrive damaged. The box lining was a specific colour scheme to match the 'American Girl' theme.

An old proverb says "Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men."

Is your work worth presenting to a king? If you have doubts, why not do the following?

  1. Survey your end-of-line customers for recommendations
  2. Write a proposal of what excellence would be in your business
  3. Make an action plan with a timetable
  4. Action the plan
  5. Return to step one
